A Lowestoft pickle dish Circa 1765-70,
A fine Lowestoft pickle dish of scallop shell shape, fully painted in blue
with a full- blown peony spray, a scroll and flower border, the handle with
a lattice design, this small Suffolk factory started production about 1747 and
ended around 1799, producing soft-paste porcelains with bone-ash; for the first
ten years decoration was confined to underglaze blue painted wares, usually
in chinoiserie patterns, output was mainly utilitarian wares and mainly catering
for the local markets. Lowestoft porcelain is now becoming highly sought after
by collectors world wide and fine examples are rare.
