A Lowestoft patty pan Circa 1765-70,
Painted inside the base with butterflies, trailing flower sprays and two minute
insects around the sides below a berry border, the exterior painted with two
smaller flower sprays, this small Suffolk factory started production about 1747
and ended around 1799, producing soft-paste porcelains with bone-ash; for the
first ten years decoration was confined to underglaze blue painted wares, usually
in chinoiserie patterns, output was mainly utilitarian wares and mainly catering
for the local markets. Lowestoft porcelain is now becoming highly sought after
by collectors world wide and fine examples are rare.
