A Staffordshire model of a bear, Circa 1800-20

A Staffordshire model of a bear, Circa 1800-20,

A rare pearlware model of a seated bear wearing a harness, chain over its back, a ball and chain to the rear, coloured in Pratt style olive green and ochre, the moulded base in light green, the body is a cream-coloured earthenware with a lead glaze with a tinge of blue. Pratt style refers to the colours rather than the item; Prattware is a term commonly used to describe pearlware painted with underglazed high-temperature colours, the subject matter may suggest that production of a chained bear could have been produced for a continental market, the Staffordshire factories exported huge amounts of wares in Europe. 8cms,

Condition - good, minor chipping along bottom front edge. No restoration or repair

Provenance; the Lomax Collection.
