A Worcester polychrome teabowl, Circa 1770-75,
Painted with a 'mandarin' and companion seated before a window, reverse with a woman and child, flanked by two vignettes of birds perched on branches within scroll cartouches upon a cell pattern ground. The oriental decorations of landscapes gradually started giving way to more formal Chinese patterns, many were inspired from Chinese export or 'mandarin' porcelain, it may also be possible that these very fine painted wares may have been made as a replacements for damaged Chinese export wares. The quality of these Worcester examples are extremely fine and would have been painted by a highly skilled worker, 7.0cms.
Condition - excellent condition, minor wear. No restoration or repair
